Program 2011

Thursday 12.05.

00:00 - 24:00

Body I/O
Body Receive
Body Transmit

Exploration of the body as space/surface of transmission and reception.

AMRO Showcase

The possible and impossible machine is a black box. This machine talks about the impossibility of interaction and about how we can think the possibilities of a collective interaction. With a simple method (by using arduino and processing) 3 persons have to activate the machine at the same time. If the participants achieve the perfect coordination, the machine will produce an indeterminate number of impossibles sentences. The text appears in a screen, mixed with images and sounds that are produced inside the box.

AMRO Showcase

For Liwoli 2011 Enrique Tomás has composed a geolocalized soundwalk for the surroundings of the Kunst Uni Linz. "Narratives of Silence" talks about the
apparent quietness of the streets of Linz and about the emotion of
remembering the past and its sounds.

The format of the work is a soundwalk using the FLOSS software noTours for
Android. If you want to enjoy the soundwalk please ask at the Liwoli Info
Point for one of the available devices.
On the 14th of May the artist will present his work accompanied with a
workshop.

AMRO Showcase

This exhibition will attempt to identify and document secret (covert) places, strategies and messages in our everyday surroundings. We will use overt, co-operative tactics and practice openness and transparency to push the covert into clearer view.

AMRO Showcase

Radio Kulturo simultaneously rebroadcasts and remixes the national classical radio station of every member state of the European Union. It is part of a series of works exploring notions of consensus, time and simultaneity utilising Internet streaming media.

Unterwasser is a installation based on Magnetism.
The installation combines ferro fluid as a visual feedback, and sound response by a magnet sensor and a arduino.

AMRO Showcase

11:00 – 16:00

all material will be provided by Deptford.TV

The materials gathered during our C/Overt operations (see http://liwoli.at/programm/2011/covert-operations-cctv-sniffing) will be meta-data tagged and added to the Deptford TV collaborative video editing platform. During the course of Liwoli this platform will be used together with the open source video editing package kdenlive, installed on the Pure:Dyne memorystick, to create a series of 'versioned' edits of this material. We will also be inviting remote participants to contribute additional raw media and participate in editing.

Workshop

12:00 – 17:00

The workshop will be oriented in producing some new peripheral modules for the installation the possible and impossible, implementing both the physical structure, the code and the linguistic behaviour

[img_assist|nid=1320|desc=|link=node|align=none|width=250|height=177]

The workshop will be structured in the following way:
1- Introduction to the machine: overview of the concept, the code, the electronic and the physical structure.
(+ o – 15 minutes)

2- peripheral modules construction:
Each one of the participants should construct its own peripheral modules.

Workshop

16:00 – 17:00

Break

17:00 – 17:20

The basis of Transmittance is a research of different kind of possible performance situations, places and audiences through the use of live a/v streaming, its support in modern web-browsers and increasingly simpler Internet interface technologies. The technology used is free software and patent-free media codecs, thus opening issues of freedom of expression and open creative spaces.

Presentation

17:30 – 17:50

One of the principles in decision making is to use free and open source software where it is possible. I want to give a short overview about the available tools, how we use them and how we plan to extend them. The Focus will be on melted, an open source playout server ready for broadcasting, Drupal, the web platform we use for collecting and distributing Videos through the Web, and Caspar CG, an open source Character Generator built by the Swedish Public TV.

Deptford.tv is an audio-visual documentation of the urban change of the Deptford area in collaboration with SPC.org media lab, Bitnik.org, the OWN, Southspace and Goldsmiths College.

Since September 2005 we started assembling AV material around the regeneration process of the Deptford area, asking community members, video artist, film-makers, visual artists and students to contribute statements, feedbacks, critiques of the regeneration process of Deptford.

Presentation

Break

19:00 – 19:45

This lecture will review the reflexive and critic capabilities of the artistic practices that use open hardware and DIY (Do it yourself) as production methodologies.

Hardware development, as an artistic practice, offers an alternative way of production, becoming symptom of tension and conflict in the relationship between art
and technology. From this position, artist seeks through his own production processes to find paths from where establish a critical discourse respect the actual technical progress and its transformations.
